Peppol is a range of technical specifications and standards that enable public bodies and their suppliers to automate the exchange of information.
To successfully send a business document electronically, critical information about the recipient of that document needs to be known.
Information such as the destination address, the type of document that the recipient is capable of receiving and the methods of transport that are supported for that document type are all integral to a successful document transfer.
In a Peppol transaction, the sender and the receiver exchange electronic business documents through intermediary gateway services called access points. The receiver makes the critical metadata information available to the other entities in the network through the service metadata publisher (SMP).
Celtrino are both a Peppol access point provider and an SMP.
SMP’s contain the exact location and the messaging capabilities of suppliers that are on the Peppol network.
In what is called a 4-corner network (as shown in the diagram above), entities exchange business documents through the Access Points. To successfully send a document in this network, the sender must determine critical metadata about the receiver of the document. Types of metadata include the types of documents the endpoint is capable of receiving and the methods of transport supported. The recipient makes the metadata available to other entities in the network through an SMP service.
By registering on an SMP on the Peppol network, a company can electronically send business documents to any other entity in the network such as public sector bodies or any other private companies that also are registered.
Celtrino has a vast number of suppliers registered to our SMP service so we have the necessary information needed to transfer messages to them securely on your behalf.
If the supplier you are trying to connect with is not registered with Celtrino’s SMP, then Celtrino (as a Peppol access point provider) will determine what SMP they are registered with, determine their receiving capabilities, and then transfer the message.
To be included on the Celtrino Peppol SMP, all that is required is to email [email protected] with a request to register. Celtrino will fulfil your request and get your company signed up to the Celtrino Peppol SMP.
